Work.ua identified 5 main issues in which employers suspect exaggeration, omissions and lies on the part of applicants. And knowing what you are suspected of, you can be proactive and prove that this is true.
Education
Often, employers are distrustful of the declared education. This also includes additional courses and trainings that applicants can attribute to themselves. To increase the employer's confidence, tell us a couple of points that you learned from a particular course, specify that you learned about it or confirmed your knowledge there.
Work periods
Job seekers know that companies are not very positive about long breaks in seniority. Therefore, some decide to embellish the dates a little, and employers, in turn, suspect everyone of this. In order to remove your suspicions, you can additionally indicate during the interview that you did not even have enough time to rest and you had to immediately switch to new duties, or something like that.
Language skills
Spoken English, French or other languages will be a plus for any candidate, even if their knowledge is not necessary at work. And some attribute this knowledge to themselves regardless of their availability. Of course, if a foreign language is necessary in the work, it is stupid to lie about it, and in other cases the employer will still distrust this item with distrust. To confirm your language proficiency, indicate in the resume which courses you took, or make another version of the resume, for example, in English, to dispel any doubts.
Positions held
To make the experience more relevant, some candidates embellish the positions they held before. So the system administrator can turn into the head of the IT department, and the advertising manager - into a leading marketer. Recommendations from previous jobs will help to convince a potential employer of your honesty, just try to talk more about previous positions and give examples that confirm your competencies and responsibilities.
technical skills
This is perhaps the most insidious lie, because it is very difficult to identify during an interview, which makes the interviewer even more suspect you. Do not forget to give examples from experience of how you used certain technical skills, mastered computer programs and their nuances, attended courses. One way or another, lying about the skills that you will need to apply in your work is a risky undertaking, because it will not be easy to explain the short period of work in the previous place to the next employer.
